Pearl Academy of Fashion was set up in 1993 by Pearl Global Ltd., one of India’s largest export houses. PAF’s objective is to train true professionals to serve - and eventually lead - India’s fashion and design industries, by constantly delivering the highest international standards. PAF provides knowledge and training in the field of Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Retailing, Merchandising, Production, Communication Design, Photography and Make-Up.
The Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF) opened its first branch in Jaipur in the year 2005. This was mainly to tap two vibrant and flourishing industry sectors in Jaipur – the fashion industry and the jewellery industry.
The fashion industry in Jaipur is unique from the point of view value addition in terms of rich heritage crafts, primarily prints, embroidery and traditional craft work. One unique feature of the garment industry in Jaipur is that it has a distinct blend of modern design that draws on inherent strengths of local and traditional crafts and textiles. Its strategic location makes it conveniently connected to northern and western India , both in terms of source markets, as well as destination markets. Rajasthan has already emerged as a major centre for higher/ vocational education, and Jaipur offers excellent infrastructural support, in addition to a safe and progressive living environment.
Jaipur also happens to be the world’s largest centre for gemstone cutting and polishing. For example, diamond and emerald cutting are synonymous with India . Around 90% of the emeralds worldwide are cut in Jaipur, and around 95% of small diamonds are processed in Jaipur for global consumption. Jewellery today happens to be a major lifestyle product, as opposed to being only an investment product some years back. This is evident in the rising demand for branded jewellery products. Keeping in view such synergies, the Jewellery Design course is offered only at the PAF Jaipur Centre.
The Jaipur Centre follows the central philosophy of PAF in providing world-class education, and has already been successful in setting benchmarks this regard, as has been evident in the student experience and the student works displayed periodically to the general public. The Centre has a core faculty : student ratio of 1 : 12 . The core faculty is supported by visiting faculty drawn from some of the best organisations/ institutions from all over India . The Jaipur Centre has also been successful in inviting experts from the industry (both from within India and abroad) for regular interaction with its students.
In addition to regular academics, students at PAF Jaipur are actively involved in other activities, such as study trips, organizing guest lectures, in-house events, Pearl Utsav (the annual cultural programme of PAF), career fairs, design events, student newsletter, to name a few.
The Jaipur Campus provides the best possible infrastructural support to its students, and houses 2 Design Studios; 4 Drawing Studios; 3 Seminar Rooms; a Sewing & Cutting Lab; 2 Computer Labs; a Conference Room ; a Testing Lab; a fully specialised Jewellery Department with 4 dedicated jewellery Labs and a gemology Lab; and Faculty/student contact rooms. It also includes the Library; a Students’ Stationery Shop and a Canteen.
The Jaipur Centre offers hostel facilities for women, and the Centre facilitates arrangements for students who may want paying guest accommodation. Even though the Jaipur Centre has a large number of outstation students, the close interaction and support students get from all faculty and staff members ensures that students feel right at home at the Jaipur Centre.
PAF Jaipur is currently located at Plot No. B, Sahkar Marg, Jaipur -302001, over an area comprising more than 20,000 sq. ft. area.
