Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF) is setting up it’s first residential campus in Kukas, Jaipur with an outlay of more than Rs 30 crore, announced Mr A K G Nair, Group Director, PAF at a press conference organised today. Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Patil, Governor of Rajasthan has given her consent to lay the foundation stone of the most modern PAF campus coming up at the 3.28 acre plot in Kukas.

“With the first phase slated to be functional by January 2008”, Mr A K G Nair said, “the Pearl Academy of Fashion, Jaipur campus by design is geared towards creating an environmentally responsive habitat for the students. It will be a modern, multi-disciplinary campus with facilities to train 600 students in the areas of fashion, textile and jewellery design. And hostel facility for about 200 students, to start with.”

Citing Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh’s recent comments on need for the Northern region states (including Rajasthan) to invest in higher and technical education, Mr Nair stated, the new campus at Kukas will boost entrepreneurship and provide international career opportunities to women in Rajasthan. He appreciated the encouragement of Rajasthan government officials for this project and said PAF will put in all efforts to involve youth of Rajasthan in promoting textile crafts of the state at international forums.

The Government statistics depict that northern region including the state of Rajasthan lags behind the national average in areas of vocational education, entrepreneurship and literacy levels. According to an independent market survey conducted by Pearl Academy of Fashion Jaipur Branch in 2006, 61% of students wanted to pursue higher studies (post graduate / professional programmes) outside Rajasthan – citing primary reason as inadequate modern education infrastructure for higher education. “With a bouquet of new generation courses at under-graduate and post-graduate levels; modern infrastructure and amenities; Pearl Academy of Fashion, Kukas campus will surely contribute in providing opportunities within the state of Rajasthan,” stated Mr Arindam Das, Director – Jaipur, PAF.

From an institute, which started with 47 students in 1993, the Academy currently has over 1100 students on its roll and well-equipped campuses in Delhi, Jaipur and Chennai.
