Rajasthan Governor Smt Pratibha Patil Calls for Increased Private Sector Participation in Higher Education in the State
Pearl Academy of Fashion sets up its first Residential Campus in Rajasthan
~ Governor Smt Pratibha Patil lays the Foundation Stone of Rajasthan's First Residential Campus for Fashion Education ~
Jaipur, January 29, 2007 : Hon'ble Governor of Rajasthan Smt Pratibha Patil called for increased participation of the private sector in higher education today while she laid the foundation stone of the first residential campus for Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF) in the state. The upcoming campus will be Rajasthan's first modern residential campus for fashion education. With an investment of about Rs 30 crore, the 3.28 acre PAF campus in Jaipur (Kukas) is slated to be ready and functional with all lab facilities by January 2008.
The Government of Rajasthan places a strong emphasis on vocational and professional education, and actively encourages participation from the private sector, especially for higher education. A large number of leading educational organizations have already started operations in Rajasthan. This promises a bright future for Rajasthan to rapidly emerge as one of the leading hubs of education and training in the country; and attract the brightest talent not only from all across India, but also from all over the world," said Hon'ble Governor Smt. Patil.
"Jaipur's rich cultural heritage and its standing as a hub of varied crafts and skills provides just the right platform for the Pearl Academy to hone and nurture budding talent from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds," added Smt. Patil.
Congratulating Pearl Academy of Fashion for the new project, Hon'ble Governor Smt Patil said "I have particularly noted that the campus will also have provision for a full-fledged hostel for more than 200 women students. This will surely go a long way in encouraging women students from different places, especially from smaller towns, to join the world of fashion. It will also promote women to take up key entrepreneurial and social roles in the state."
House of Pearl plans to invest to the tune of Rs. 200 crore in building the country's education infrastructure", announced Mr. Deepak Seth, Chairman, House of Pearl and promoter of Pearl Academy of Fashion.
"We are investing more than Rs. 30 crore in the new Rajasthan campus which will have facilities to cater to more than 600 students" stated Mr. Seth in his welcome address at the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of PAF's residential upcoming campus in Kukas, Jaipur.
"The new Rajasthan campus has been articulated to create a modern-fusion design in keeping with the progressive teaching of the institute. The institute is 100% self sufficient for captive power and water supply and it promotes rain water harvesting and waste water re-cycling through a sewage treatment plant", added Mr. Seth.
According to the architects– Morphogenesis, "The design and facilities of the campus are slated to complement the Chairman's vision to provide world-class education with world-class systems and infrastructure."
The Pearl Academy of Fashion, Jaipur campus, by design is geared towards creating an environmentally responsive habitat for the students. It will be a modern, multi-disciplinary campus with facilities to train students in the areas of fashion, textile and jewelry design with hostel facility for about 200 students, to start with", stated Mr. A K G Nair, Group Director- Pearl Academy of Fashion in his address.
"The new campus at Kukas will boost entrepreneurship and provide international career opportunities to women in Rajasthan," he added. He appreciated the encouragement of Rajasthan government officials for this project and said PAF will put in all efforts to involve the youth of Rajasthan in promoting textile crafts of the state at international forums.
Currently, PAF Jaipur offers three post graduate programmes in the areas of Fashion Design Indian Wear, Fashion Retail, Fashion Merchandising and two under graduate B.A. Hons programmes in Fashion Design and Jewellery Design
