Eligibility Minimum 10+2. Preferably 1 year experience in the Garment Industry
Aims of the Program
The FCWW program is aimed at students aspiring to be trained/ upgraded as fashion design professionals involved in design & product development, and who wish to anchor themselves as entrepreneurs in women’s wear fashion.
Besides providing an overview of Fashion business in India, the course seeks develop students an understanding of the design & development processes involved in creating a garment from concept to final product. It also equips them with an understanding of aspects of garment manufacturing and creates basic awareness and exploration of materials applied in garments. The course inculcates skills of visual presentation / communication applied in fashion industry.
Learning Outcomes
 
  • Understand the segmentation and dynamics of the Fashion Business in India with special reference to women’s wear.
  • Understand the relevance and application of elements and principles of design in garments.
  • An awareness of the creative design process.
  • Develop visualization and observation skills.
  • Acquire skills of presenting design ideas through illustration.
  • Understand fit and balance of a garment.
  • Adapt given blocks for garment design variations.
  • Develop awareness of sewing terminology and develop sewing skills.
  • Identify and collect fabrics and trims applied in garments.
  • Use design development process, illustration and technical skill sets in order to present a final women’s wear project.

Course Content :
The program has been structured to provide a thorough grasp of all important skills including an understanding of the market dynamics, required to produce commercially viable products using technology which is of great importance in present day design activities. It concentrates on instilling problem solving ability within the students for the challenges of the fashion industry, and yet develops personal creative vision.

  • Fashion Studies I (Foundation of fashion design)
  • Fabric Study (Introduction to textiles and its relevance)
  • Fashion Illustration I (Human life study and flat drawings)
  • Pattern Making for Women’s wear I (Flat pattern making methods)
  • Garment Construction I (Professional sewing techniques)
  • Draping I (Developing garments/ patterns using the dress form)
  • CAD Basics (Technical communications, Corel Draw)


Semester II
Integration and Customization Phase
 
  • Fashion Studies II (Advanced studies with focus on its application in fashion products)
  • Creative textiles (Understanding of traditional and contemporary textiles and their innovative applications for fashion)
  • Fashion Illustration II (Rendering techniques and stylization)
  • Pattern Making for Women’s wear II (Advanced, with applications/ variationsn in design project)
  • Garment Construction II (Creative sewing techniques)
  • Design Project
The program includes structured assessments and project submission.
Mode of Curriculum delivery:
The program will be delivered through classroom lecture, tutorials, demonstrations, practice sessions, lab work and visits to industrial units.

Placement assistance to be provided by the institute.
Hostel facilities (only for women) available on a first come first served basis.
